How filing with MFS works

A clear, three-step process. Most clients complete onboarding in under fifteen minutes, even when they are offshore or between crossings.

1
Create or log in to your portal

Select “Start My 2026 Filing” to open your secure TaxDome portal. Complete a short intake so we understand your role, flags, days in the U.S., and income sources.

2
Upload documents and answer crew-ready questions

Upload W-2s, 1099s, contracts, payslips, FX statements, and boat account summaries. We translate your yachting year into clean numbers and a defensible filing position.

3
We prepare, review, and file

We prepare your return with a marine lens, review it with you in plain English, and handle e-file and copies for banks, visas, or lenders.

Choose your 2026 filing path

Yacht crew and marine businesses start in different places. Pick the package that fits how you actually earn, then move into your secure portal to begin your 2026 filing.

Do not wait until the season is at its busiest.

Refit schedules, crossings, and charters move quickly. Deadlines do not. Reserve your 2026 filing slot now, upload documents as you receive them, and minimise the risk of last-minute stress, penalties, or missed refunds.

Marine-specific insight Crew contracts, marina invoices, FX statements, and foreign companies are normal here, not unusual edge cases.
Clear scope and pricing You see your service level, scope, and fees before we begin, supported by a written engagement and secure payment.
Support beyond filing Questions, notices, or follow-up after filing are part of our relationship, not an afterthought.

Refund estimator (simple federal-only ballpark: 2023–2026)

This tool gives a basic federal estimate using 2024-style U.S. standard deductions and marginal brackets as a reference across all listed years (2023–2026). It does not consider every situation (foreign income exclusions, AMT, NIIT, specific credits, or state tax). Use it as a ballpark only and then speak with us, especially for yacht crew and marine scenarios.
Estimated taxable income: $0
Estimated federal tax (including rough self-employment tax): $0
Withholding and credits: $0
$0
A positive number suggests an estimated refund. A negative number suggests an estimated balance due.

Crew referral program

A simple way to thank the crew who send other crew our way. No forms, no codes — just your name.

Crew get rewarded for looking out for each other

Most of our new clients come from recommendations on board, at the dock, or during a yard stay. The crew referral program makes sure you are recognised when you point someone towards MFS.

It is intentionally simple:

1
Tell your fellow crew, partner, or friend to start their 2026 filing with McGregor Financial Services.
2
When they complete their intake or message us in the portal, they simply mention your name as the person who referred them.
3
We will reach out to you to confirm. Once they become a signed, paying client for that tax season, we either send you $50 or reduce your own MFS fees by $50.

There is no cap on how many people you can refer. If you are often the person explaining U.S. taxes on board, this is a straightforward way to turn that into real value for you.

Questions clients ask before filing

Many of our clients are travelling, offshore, or operating businesses across time zones. They want to know that their filing position is defensible and that the process is organised.

This page is designed so you can decide quickly if MFS feels like the right fit. When you are ready, you can move straight into the portal and begin.

Do I need to log in before I see anything?

Yes. All 2026 tax work runs through your secure MFS portal, powered by TaxDome. Once you log in or create an account you will see your tasks, document requests, messages, and engagement letters in one place.

What if I am offshore or in a different time zone?

That is completely normal in our practice. Almost everything can be handled inside the portal and by secure messaging. When a call is necessary, we work around your watch schedule and time zone.

Someone told me crew do not pay U.S. tax if they are always on boats. Is that true?

Not necessarily. Whether you owe U.S. tax depends on citizenship, residency, days in the U.S., how your income is structured, and whether exclusions apply. We walk through those questions during intake so your position is documented.

Can you help if I have missed several years or received IRS letters?

Yes. Many clients come to us after one or more missed seasons or after receiving notices. We can combine prior-year returns with your 2026 filing and help you respond properly to IRS correspondence.

How does the crew referral program work?

If you are an MFS client and you refer another crew member who becomes a signed, paying tax client, you receive a $50 referral thank-you. Your referral simply needs to mention you on intake or in the portal so we can attribute the referral correctly. If you have several referrals, we track each one and apply the reward according to our referral policy.
