Built around the vessel

Your payroll needs more than a pay run.

View from a yacht deck across turquoise water under a bright sky.

Crew changes, bonuses and a busy operating calendar need a consistent payroll record. Owners and captains need to understand what is due, who approves it and how payroll connects to the vessel’s accounts.

McGregor Financial Services coordinates yacht payroll administration and U.S. payroll tax support. We establish the service scope around the employer, crew population and vessel arrangement before processing begins.

  • Private yachts
  • Charter programs
  • Owner offices
  • Management companies

The service scope

Organized payroll. From roster to reporting.

A defined scope gives your captain, management office and accounting team a shared understanding of the work.

U.S. crew · International operations

Start with the facts. Build the right scope.

A yacht payroll arrangement needs to account for more than the vessel’s flag. We gather the information needed to assess the proposed U.S. payroll treatment and identify matters requiring additional advice.

  • The employing entity and vessel flag
  • Crew citizenship, residency and employment arrangements
  • Operating locations and the payroll period
  • Existing registrations, deposits and year-to-date records

Foreign employment law, immigration, insurance and employer-of-record services require separate arrangements unless expressly included.

Your team

Maritime context. A direct point of contact.

MFS brings yacht accounting and financial administration experience to the payroll conversation. That helps connect crew costs with vessel budgets, funding requests and the financial records owners need.

U.S. tax questions can be coordinated with MFS’s IRS Enrolled Agent expertise. Individual crew tax advice remains a separate service from employer payroll administration.

Who is this yacht payroll service for?

Yacht owners, captains, management companies and owner offices that need payroll administration and U.S. payroll tax support for an agreed crew population.

Who processes payroll: MFS or CrewPay Inc.?

McGregor Financial Services is your client-facing advisory and coordination team. CrewPay Inc., A McGregor Company, is the backend payroll processor. Your engagement identifies each party’s responsibilities.

Does CrewPay pay crew wages?

In the partner-paid model, the owner or management company pays net wages. CrewPay calculates the agreed U.S. payroll tax liabilities and remits those taxes after cleared funding and authorization. Any different payment arrangement must be confirmed in the engagement.

Can you support a foreign-flagged yacht with U.S. crew?

Ask us to review the proposed arrangement. We establish the employer, vessel flag, crew circumstances and operating locations before agreeing the applicable U.S. payroll scope. A foreign flag alone does not settle the payroll treatment.

How much do yacht payroll services cost?

We prepare a proposal based on crew count, monthly gross payroll, vessel and employer structure, filing needs and onboarding work. The proposal identifies processing fees, funding requirements and any additional charges.

What do we need to switch payroll providers?

Start with the employer details, crew roster, current payroll schedule, year-to-date payroll registers, prior filings and deposit records. We review opening balances and agree the cutover date before the first run.

Do you become the crew’s employer?

This page describes payroll administration and tax processing. It does not offer employer-of-record services or transfer the employer’s obligations. The responsible employer is identified during onboarding.

When Unpaid Yacht Wages Become a Claim Against the Vessel

Unpaid yacht wages can become more than an employment dispute. They can create claims against the vessel itself. The M/Y Blue Star litigation shows why clear payroll calculations, contracts and expense records matter when yacht funding breaks down.

Quay 7 Raises a Practical Question for Cape Town Operators: Is the Supply Chain Ready for a Larger Superyacht Flow?

Quay 7 Superyacht Marina is being presented as a high-end facility for large yacht traffic in Cape Town, and the broader narrative is that it supports the city’s rise as a more established superyacht destination. For maritime businesses, the immediate issue is less the branding and more the operational and financial impact if that positioning starts converting into sustained vessel activity.
